Tim Godfrey was born on August 26, 1979, in Kaduna State, Nigeria. He is the second child in a family of six. Although he hails from Abia State, he spent most of his childhood and formative years in Kaduna. Growing up, he was actively involved in church activities, particularly in the choir, where he developed his passion for music.

He attended primary and secondary school in Kaduna before proceeding to Trinity International University of Ambassadors, Georgia, USA, where he earned a doctorate in Fine Art and Musicology in 2018.

Tim Godfrey officially began his professional music career in 2004. His journey to stardom, however, started earlier in 1994, when he became a choir director in his church. In this role, he trained several church choirs and honed his skills as a music director, voice instructor, and instrumentalist.

In 2004, he founded his gospel band, Tim Godfrey and the Xtreme Crew, a contemporary Christian musical group focused on spreading the gospel through music. Since its inception, the group has performed at various national and international gospel events, ministering in Nigeria and beyond.
